Collbran Job Corp “Peoples’ Garden”

Glenwood Springs, September 17, 2010 - Colorado Big Country RC&D Council (CBC) Executive Director, Kae McDonald, handed a check to Whitney, a leader in the Student Government Association at the Job Corps Center near Collbran, Colorado on 9-16-10. The funding will pay for equipment and supplies for the Job Corps “Peoples’ Garden” project. Engineering and design for the garden improvements were provided by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (a sub-agency of the USDA) which is also a supporting partner of CBC.

“This garden allows our young people to experience the enjoyment of growing their own food”, said Ms. Mary Kain, an instructor at Job Corps. Produce from the garden will go first to the Center dining hall and any excess will be donated to local charities.

Job Corps is a federally funded program, operating under the U.S. Forest Service, which provides essential academic and career skills training. Their comprehensive approach to education prepares students for success in all aspects of their lives.
